Before You Call
Is it time for this year’s routine maintenance on your Carrier HVAC system or scheduled a service call? If so, there are some things you should do before a technician arrives to ensure they have all the information needed to do a thorough job.
To prepare for a service appointment, here is what you should do:
Make sure you know where all the heating and cooling units are.
Use the troubleshooting guide in the appliances owner’s manual to try to fix the problem yourself.
Dirty air filters cause a lot of trouble so check that first and clean if needed.
Find the model numbers for the Carrier products involved and write them down.
Write down any problems you have noticed with your unit, including when the problem started, and have this handy when the technician arrives.
Ensure that the dealer’s technician has full access to the unit by removing anything that may be blocking the way.
Lock pets up so they don’t bother technicians when they are working.
An adult should be present when the technician arrives.
Technicians often call to confirm appointments so have access to your phone.
Renters should get landlord permission to have HVAC units serviced.
If the unit if frozen, shut it off to allow it to thaw out before the technician arrives.
If the unit has been serviced before, have information handy about what repairs were made.
Payment should be made when service is complete so be prepared for that.
